New Limited Edition Fracture Watch Features a ‘Cracked’ Dial
– According to Krüger, ‘’There Are No Rules‘’
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 18 November 2023 -
Perpétuel Gallery in Dubai is proud to announce the release of Fracture, a new rule-breaking timepiece by the acclaimed Scottish artist-designer Fiona Krüger.
Limited to just seven pieces, this watch challenges conventions with its unique ‘cracked’ dial, revealing the complexity of the Agenhor movement beneath. The fissure in the innovative dial is meticulously hand polished, featuring sun-brushing perfectly aligned across its two halves. Crafted by renowned manufacturer Comblémine, Krüger describes the dial as “edgy yet elegant.”
Inspired in part by the striking rock formations observed during Krüger's frequent visits to Switzerland, the artist notes that, “A fracture is a visual representation of time - a moment of chaos etched onto our landscape. In contrast, a sun-brushed dial is very classic and well-behaved.’’ Krüger adds, ‘’So I loved the idea of taking this perfect dial and cracking it in two. I admit I really like bringing a punk spirit to traditional watchmaking.”
As part of Krüger’s Chaos collection, the watch boasts a recycled titanium case, polished split dauphin hands, a crown at 12 o’clock, floating indices, and an Arabic number 12. The two-tone green and copper colour scheme on the movement mirrors the colours of the Perpétuel Gallery in DIFC, requiring 12 months of research and development.
In line with Krüger's commitment to an eco-friendly ethos, Fracture features a case made of titanium recycled from the Swiss watch industry's discarded metal. One of the watch’s straps is crafted from apple "leather", and the presentation box is constructed from seaweed paper.
Fracture stems from Krüger’s exploration of the concepts of order and chaos and their connection to our perception of time. Krüger shares, “When I design a watch, I don't perceive it as creating a timepiece; rather, it becomes an exploration of the essence of time itself. The processes we use to make our watches exist already, but how we implement them is our unique formula. I think it’s almost like a new language within matchmaking. For me, there is no rule book.”
